Extra-curricular Activities: There are a variety of activities that your child can be a part of while attending STA. Most of these have after school practices, but some take place during the school day. At the beginning of the year, all dates will be given to parents regarding practices and competitions (as applicable) as well as how to be a part of the program.
All students are invited to be a part of this team, which meets once a week after school from August – March. Students work together to study information on a given topic and compete through a series of tests with questions in Social Science, Science, Fine Arts, and Literature, and they write an essay. They compete against other schools in Madera County.
6th grade students are invited to be on the Battle of the Books Team, the “Reading Ravens.” Students read as many of the 20 pre-determined books as they can before the competition. They compete against other schools in Madera County.
All students are invited to try out for the math team. Students study a variety of math topics covered in 7th and 8th grade and practice to compete in the various events at the math tournament against other schools from Madera County.
Since 2021, we have hosted an in-house robotics competition, which allowed all students who wanted to participate to be able to do so. Each year we have had over 40 students join this extra-curricular activity, which meets 2-3 times a week throughout September and October, before our competition.
In order to offer the most opportunity for students to participate in leadership, we offer two rounds of student council, one per semester. All students are allowed to run for officer and class rep positions. A student cannot be in a Student Council for more than one position per year.
Every year, we do a small drama production. All students are invited to participate as either an actor/actress or stagehand. We have rehearsals over the course of 1-3 weeks and then perform at the 3rd quarter family night of the year.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
